- Use the free Canva tool: Dream Lab
- Click on “Dream Lab”
- In the box under “What will you imagine today?” ask it to create a split image of the blended word. Use the following prompt: "Create a split image representing the blended word '[blended word]'. On one side, depict [concept 1] with [specific visual details]. On the other side, show [concept 2] with [specific visual details].
- For example, create a split image representing the blended word “hangry”. On one side, depict a person eating. On the other side, depict someone who is angry.
- Create several split images. Other words: Brunch/frenemy/clamping/blog/ motel/internet, etc.
- Introduce the concept of portmanteaus (blend words) to the students. Show them the images and ask them to guess the blended word. You can give hints if necessary.
